Hawkins pear was a tree that James Bagwell from Webb, Georgia found at a old home place in north Fulton County, Georgia. That tree was a large Callery pear on one side and this fruiting pear on the other, suggesting it was a grafted selection.

Scions collected from tree on farm of James and Clyde Price, Greene County, Georgia. Clyde’s sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Doc Hussey of Hancock County, Georgia dug a pear seedling from their cow pasture and gave it to Clyde in the mid-1970s. Fruit drops from early November to early January. When ripe, the round fruit is sweet and juicy. Although most fruit will drop when ripe, some will rot on the tree. Fruit keeps well after dropping. -Description by David Osborn
