‘Grosso' Lavender
What is more fragrant and refreshing than Lavender! We have one of the most fragrant Lavenders being grown, ‘Grosso’. Beautiful slivery-green foliage that boast large dark purple flowers. As the flowers dry, they can be harvested indoors for long lasting fragrance.
‘Grosso’ grows in a mounding form, that offers a unique opportunity for the garden. Used as a formal “Old English” planting or “Modern” planting this Lavender is very versatile. Whether planted in a border or elegant hedge to a rock star container garden, this is the plant for you! If you’re into potpourri or exquisite dried arrangements, ‘Grosso’ can take all the way there. In a culinary note, this lavender pairs well with meats and vegetable for a more robust flavor and aroma. Lavender water is a refreshing treat on a long and hot summer day. Infuse your water with lavender stems for a few hours adding and a bit of Splenda or honey to achieve a tasty treat.
Bad soil? ‘Grosso’ Lavender is very “poor soil” and “dry soil” tolerant. The key is to get the plant established its first year, and then let it go. Do not over water and do not fertilize as you would other plants. The only key to growing Lavender is great air circulation. Don’t crowd your plant too close together and add to an existing garden where other plants will infringe in its space. Soil mounding is advisable, taking a 8-10” mound of soil and planting your plant above the existing soli lines. This will help with drainage and air circulation if you are a heavy mulcher.
We do want to mention, deer and rabbits tend to avoid ‘Grosso’ Lavender, so this will be one plant to take off the varmint list. On the other hand, bees and butterflies will flock to the rich purple flowers giving competition for your cut flower projects.
