The Murray Cypress (Cupressocyparis leylandii 'Murray') is a fast-growing evergreen tree that's a cross between the Monterey cypress and the Alaskan cedar. It's a popular choice for landscaping and creating privacy screens or windbreaks. Here are some characteristics of the Murray Cypress:
Growth: The Murray Cypress can grow up to 40 feet tall and 10 feet wide, and it can grow 3 feet per year.
Shape: The Murray Cypress has a natural conical shape and straight stems.
Disease and pest resistance: The Murray Cypress is more resistant to disease and pests than the Leyland Cypress, especially in the Southeast.
Soil tolerance: The Murray Cypress can tolerate a wider range of soils, including damper soil as long as it's well-drained.
Sunlight: The Murray Cypress prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade. It needs at least four hours of direct sunlight per day.
Fertilizing: Fertilize the Murray Cypress in the spring, and consider a second light feeding in late summer. Spread fertilizer around the drip line of the tree, and water thoroughly after fertilizing.
