The Brown Turkey Fig is perfect if you want a sweet fruit that you can pick off the tree and eat fresh. This cultivar is probably the most popular fig in the southeastern United States. The tree can produce two crops a year, with figs ripening in early summer and again in late summer months. The figs are medium sized and sweet with a brownish-purple skin and an amber pulp.
Brown Turkey Fig trees are self-pollinating and are hardy in Zones 7-9. At maturity, it can reach a height and width between 15 ft. to 30 ft. Plant in well drained soil and water as needed.
This fig growers well in a pot or container on a patio or deck. Just make sure there is plenty of sun so it will produce fruit. This makes a great landscape tree to provide a nice screen or shade tree. All plants are 1 gallon size containers. They will bloom in summer and again toward fall. Deciduous trees in most of US but evergreen in south Florida.
Prune as needed and it will produce enough fruit for friends and all your canning fruit and cooking!
